A calm bench for words

WordBench is a small collection of text tools designed to stay out of your way. No accounts, no clutter, no waiting.

What it is

WordBench started from a simple frustration: most online text tools are loud. They bury a one line job under pop ups and clutter, ask you to sign in to copy a result, or send your text to a server for something a browser can do on its own. WordBench does the opposite. It is a quiet page with a wide editor and a set of focused utilities that each do one thing well.

How privacy works

Every tool runs as JavaScript inside your browser tab. When you type into the word counter or paste a list into the duplicate remover, that text is processed on your own device and never sent anywhere. There is no server that sees your content and no database that stores it. Even if the site later adds standard page analytics or ads, those run at the level of pages and visits, not keystrokes; they never see the words you type into a tool. Refresh the page and everything you entered is cleared. That makes WordBench safe to use with a cover letter, a private list, or an unpublished draft. See the privacy policy for the full detail, including how cookies and ads work if enabled.

How reading time is measured

The word counter estimates reading time using an average silent reading speed of 238 words per minute, a figure drawn from published reading research on adults reading general prose. Speaking time uses a slower 130 words per minute, closer to a comfortable presentation pace. Both are estimates that scale with your word count, so they are useful for planning a talk or judging article length, not for timing to the second.

The tools

The bench includes a word counter, a case converter, a lorem ipsum generator, and line tools for removing duplicates, sorting, cleaning whitespace, making slugs, and finding and replacing. See them all on the tools page.
